I did it, my first post!

Blind but Sound

So, I have toyed with the idea of a writing a blog for a while, however, setting up Craft Café and my creative projects has been quite time consuming. Although I’ve had lots of ideas running around in my head, the blog was put on hold, until now. Now I have some time for reflection, I thought this would be the perfect time to start sharing my journey with you.

So here goes…I am an art and design graduate and a very creative person. I am also a business woman, a wife and a mother of an amazing little boy – well he’s getting bigger by the day!!

My life has always been a roller coaster journey as I imagine a lot of people’s have.

I have had an eye condition all my life and came close to having Uveitis. From the age of 2 to 26, I had many corneal surgeries. But then, I had a serious accident which changed my life forever! I lost my right eye and was left to readjust to life differently. I still had limited sight in the left eye but managed with the help of technology to get on with things. This included getting back into my creative passions and setting up my lifetime dream of running a craft café, where people could come to socialize and be creative.

Everything was going amazingly – I had the building work for the premises done, and finally the café was ready to open. I started to receive great responses to the café and I was finding ways around my challenges with my sight, approaching them with an open mind and resolve. Things were finally looking good after nearly 10 years of struggling, and I began to feel like the accident hadn’t ruled my life. I was getting back to being me again! Yes, I had the normal problems: babysitting, bills and thinking about what’s for tea, but I am a good wife and mother and I really felt like I was on top of things.

But then, can you believe it, it happened again!! In August of this year, I had another accident when I bent over to reach for something and misjudged where the TV was, banging my eye and causing trauma, which ultimately led to me losing my sight. I won’t go into too much detail as it is a little gory. I will say, however, it has been a devastating shock and I feel like I’m right back at the start.

So, here I am trying to come to terms with what is happening to me and I want to find a way to deal with this – this seems like the perfect time to start my blog so it can help me to get all my thoughts out. Hopefully, if I share my journey, it will not only help me but hopefully help others going through something life altering too.

As I am writing this first blog and trying to figure out a different way of using my MacBook, the challenges ahead dawn on me. I know how difficult it will be to find the patience and drive to re-learn everything from scratch again but I’m determined to do it, I just only hope I can.

Well, that’s me in a nutshell and where I am up to. I look forward to sharing my challenges, pain, joys, achievements and all the things in between.

Big hugs

Nina x
